ble...beyond belief". Bluestein claimed the case was settled "on its merits...based on facts". He claimed, however, that he did not know the facts and that he was unfamiliar with the details of the case. He said questions should be asked of T. Timothy Ryan, solicitor in the Washington office.
When asked for the rationale of the Labor Department's concession to National City Bank, Bluestein told the group, "We are your adversaries". Gundersen questioned this statement, pointing out that Bluestein is a public servant working for an agency established to safeguard the rights of workers. Bluestein responded that he was there also to protect the rights of the federal contractors.
At the end of the meeting, a UPI reporter tried to interview Morley. Bluestein angrily intervened, threatening to call the police to evict the reporter. "OFCCP has spoken," he declared.
Madonna Smith, member and spokesperson of CWW, said, "We are concerned that the rights of the employees not be jeopardized just because the Reagan administration has changed most previous federal commitments to equal employment opportunity. We are also concerned about any back room dirty deals which may have moved the government to dismiss this case before it is brought to light".

"National City Bank is not off the hook. We are fighting the agreement".
---Susan Bedard, member and spokesperson, CWW
There were about two hundred members and wellwishers at the English Oak Room on February 17 at the sixth anniversary celebration of CWW.
Susan Bedard, member and spokesperson of CWW, announced that Administrative Law Judge Robert Feldman had refused to accept the agreement

frightened. Harvard psychiatrists surveyed 1,000 Boston adolescents; most of them believe they will not grow up to marry, have children, or live out their lives. Caldicott's own daughter believes this.
"What have we done to our children?" she asks. "This is the most important parenting issue of our time. Why make sure they clean their teeth? Why give them a good education? Why give them an emotionally stable family when they have no future? That's why I'm here speaking. A baby is the symbol of what this is all about. There are not communist babies and capitalist babies. A baby is a baby is a baby".
To the people who ask "What about the Russians?" she responds, "The superpowers are mirror images of each other. We can charge them with Afghanistan and Poland and they can charge us with El Salvador and South Africa. You can find many reasons why we should hate the Russians and they vice versa; those reasons will lead us to war most certainly, as they always have. It takes much more moral courage for men and women to face their own dark side and grow emotionally...than it does to project the fear and anger out and kill people. That's an act lacking in any courage. And this is the first time since we have been on the planet that we actually have to grow up and act like adults, not children”.
First we must break through our own numbing fear, grieve for the state we are in, then get angry and start to work. Caldicott says that not enough legislators are hearing from us, the people, about our wish to live in a disarmed world. Everyone can write a few postcards a week to lawmakers and the administration, calling for a halt to this threat to our existence.
and had instructed the Labor Department to continue its suit against National City Bank, The trial set for March 9 was not cancelled. Judge Feldman agreed to consider holding a pretrial conference. All parties in the suit were instructed to file briefs by February 18.
CWW, cautiously optimistic about this recent development, announced they are continuing to press for congressional hearings into the delaying tactics. and withholding of resources within the Labor Department. They are also continuing to urge members and friends to write letters to editors and to congressional representatives. They are organizing a "phone tree," a network of instant comunication in a coalition with other women's groups, such as HardHatted Women, who are concerned with women's rights in the workplace.
"We're staying with this," said Kurtz. “We must make sure that this is kept out in the open so they can't go off in a corner and make secret deals".
